e) Perception, cognition or utterance (PCU) verbs
The subject of this kind of verbs perceives or cognizes a state or event, or
utters a proposition concerning a state or event. What perceived or cognized or uttered
is corresponded in the complement clause. The complement clause in this
environment functions as the object of the mental or verbal activity that the main
clause depicts but there are reasons for not assigning it as the direct object, as shown
in (28a-c).
