If the segment-final low back vowel आ /ɑ/ comes into contact with succeeding

                           segment-initial semi-high front vowel ए /e/ or semi-low front vowel ऐ /ɛ/, it changes

into semi-low front vowel ऐ /ɛ/, as shown in (23a-b):

                             (23) a. आधा /ɑd ̤ ɑ/ ‘half’ + एक /ek/ ‘one’ = आधैक /ɑd ̤ ɛk/ ‘one or half’: आ / ɑ/ + ए /e/
                                   = ऐ /ɛ/

                                 b. राजा /rɑjɑ/ ‘king’ + ऐसी /ɛsi/ ‘luxury’ = रजैसी /rʌjɛsi/ ‘royal luxury’

If the segment-final low back vowel आ /ɑ/ comes into contact with succeeding

                           segment-initial semi-high back vowel ओ /o/ or semi-low back vowel औ /ɔ/, it changes

into semi-low back vowel औ /ɔ/, as shown in (24a-b):
                             (24) a. आधा /ɑd ̤ ɑ/ ‘half’ + ओस /os/ 'dew' = अधौस /ʌd ̤ ɔs/ 'partially soaked with dew'

                                 b. आधा /ɑd ̤ ɑ/ ‘half’ + औखा /ɔkʰɑ/ ‘container’ = अधौखा /ʌd ̤ ɔkʰɑ/ ‘a madeium

                                    sized bamboo container’: आ /ɑ/ + औ /ɔ/ = औ /ɔ/.

                           (ii) Falling

If the preceding segment final low back vowel आ /ɑ/ comes into contact of
either semi-low back vowel अ /ʌ/ or itself as the second segment-initials, they are

assimilated into low back vowel आ /ɑ/, as shown in (25a-b):

                             (25) a. पराया /pʌrɑyɑ/ ‘alien’ + अधीन /ʌd ̤ in/ ‘dependent’ = परायाधीन /pʌrɑyɑd ̤ in/

                                 ‘dependent’: आ /ɑ/ + अ /ʌ/ = आ /ɑ/.
                                 b. राजा /rɑjɑ/ ‘king’ + अधीन /ʌd̤ in/ ‘dependent’ = राजाधीन /rɑjɑd̤ in/ ‘royal

                                    slave’: आ /ɑ/ + अ /ʌ/ = आ /ɑ/.

                           (iii) Syllable merger

If any of the low back vowel आ /ɑ/, high front vowel इ /i/ and high back vowel

उ /u/ comes under duplication as segment-final and segment-initial, the result is also
the same, as shown in (26a-h):

                             (26) a. भंसा /b̤ ʌnsɑ/ ‘cooking’ + आरी /ɑri/ ‘boundary’ = भंसारी /b̤ ʌnsɑri/ ‘traditional

                                    bakery’: आ /ɑ/ + आ /ɑ/ = आ /ɑ/.
                                 b. टंटा /ʈʌnʈɑ/ ‘conflict’ + आधार /ɑd ̤ ɑr/ ‘base’ = टंटाधार /ʈʌnʈɑd ̤ ɑr/ ‘rootcause of

                                    conflict’: आ /ɑ/ + आ /ɑ/ = आ /ɑ/.
