Habitual and durative aspects are the subtypes of imperfective aspect. They are
discussed below:
a. Habitual
Habitual aspect expresses an assertion that a certain type of event takes place
regularly; the verb shows the repetition of an action. It does not imply that an instance
of the event is taking place 'now'. The suffixes added immediately after the verb stem
describe habitual aspect in Bhojpuri. The verb inflects for two types of habitual aspect
in Bhojpuri. They are present habitual and past habitual. The habitual aspect is not
different than simple tense in Bhojpuri. There is no any distinct system to indicate
habitual aspect in this language.
(i)Present habitual
The present habitual aspect indicates the habit in Bhojpuri, which takes place
repeatedly. However, the suffixes added to the verb stem describe the present
habitual. In present habitual aspect, verbs are suffixed in same manner as are suffixed
in simple present tense. Following are the examples:
