3.0 Outline

                    This chapter deals with verb stem of Bhojpuri language. It consists of three sections.

                    Section 3.1 deals with types of verb stem. In section 3.2 we discuss about the stem
                    classification and finally 3.3 summarizes the findings of this chapter.

                    3.1 Types of verb stem

                    The stem may consist solely of a single root morpheme, or of two morphemes, or of a

                    root morpheme plus a derivational affix. All have common that inflectional affixes are
                    attached to the verb stem. On the basis of the structure, the verb stems in Bhojpuri can

                    be classified into three classes/categories.

                    a. Primitive  b. Derivative  c. Compound

                    3.1.1 Primitive stems
                    The primitive stems are those that are monomorphic and considered basic. These are

                    simple and their morphological structure is simple. Following lists illustrate each of
                    the type:
