Bhojpuri falls under the western sub-branch of the Bihari branch of the Eastern sub-
group of the Indo-Aryan group of the Indo-European family of languages.
Five types of syllable patterns are available in Bhojpuri such as V, CV, CVC, CVCC
and VC. Personal and demonstrative pronouns are found in this language. There are
two genders in this language: masculine and feminine. Feminine noun is marked by
suffixing various morphemes to masculine noun. Bhojpuri has got different case
markers such as nominative, instrumental, source, locative, accusative, dative,
genitive, comitative and ablative. Bhojpuri is a left branching language. Modifiers
precede the noun. Like other SOV (subject, object and verb) languages, Bhojpuri also
acquire post position feature in syntax. In Bhojpuri the unmarked word order is SOV,
but the order can be scrambled without affecting its meaning.
