'Father is sleeping at home.' (13.25)
Hence, we have observed there are three forms of verbal morphology in

present prograssive in Bhojpuri: main verb in imperfective form with -अत /-ʌt/ marker

                           that is further marked by - आनी /-ani/, -आड़ऽ /-ɑɽʌ/, -आ /-ɑ/, -इआ /-iɑ/ and so on; use of

रह /rʌɦ/ 'live' in indefinite/participle form followed by different forms of बा /bɑ/; and
ommition of रह /rʌɦ/ 'live' with indefinite/participle form of some of the main verb

(accomplishment-completion and stative) followed by बा /bɑ/ 'be' in different endings

                           to agree with subjects/agents.
Traditional grammar used to deal with the first form as imperfect and the later

as progressive. But if they all have the same function, we need not deal with them as
separate entities as progressive, durative and continuous states of verbs are all

                           ongoing process.
                           b) Habitual

Habitual aspect asserts a certain type of event taking place regularly. In this
aspect the verb shows repetition of an action, so, it is also repetitive. Therefore, it

does not imply that an instance of event taking place either now or in the reference
time of orator. Givón (2001a:290) describes it in two sorts: past-habitual and habitual.
But habitual aspect is expressed only in present tense initially. So, in Bhojpuri the

verb inflections are described as: past habitual and present habitual.
                           (i) Past habitual

As we explained present progressive in this chapter, we came to get two forms
of the verb: imperfective or simultaneous converbal marker -अत /-ʌt/ suffixed with the

verbal stem and further inflected by agreement markers and the other with verbal stem
unmarked and followed by infinive/participle form of रह /rʌɦ/ as well as copula बा

/bɑ/ 'be' that is inflected for agreements with subject.

But there is a single form that stands for past progressive and past habitual,
                           what we have already described.
