4.1.1 The past tense
The past tense in Bhojpuri refers to an action or state, which took place in the past.
The past tense markers are directly suffixed to the verb stems. The past tense marker
is followed by agreement suffix or marker.
The past tense in Bhojpuri is marked differently according to number, person, gender
and honorificity. The past tense marker in Bhojpuri is - for 2 and 3 person while -

for 1 person and honorificity.
When the past tense morpheme is attached to the final stem, it is diphthongized and
becomes as in 24(a-c) but in case of , , , and final stems and consonant
final verb stems, verb stem remains in bare form as shown in (24 d) and table 5. There
is no change in verb stem.
