Oमरण /smʌrʌɳ/ [ʌsmʌrʌn] 'recalling'
                                       Oथायी /sthɑyi/ [ʌsthɑi] 'permanent'

Table 4.14 shows that initial as well as medial insertion of a vowel is Bhojpuri

usage with tatsama words. But such insertion looks either repetition of the first vowel

                           in the tatsama word as इ /i/ in O \ी /stri/ [istiri] and अ /ʌ/ in Oमरण /smʌrʌɳ/ [ʌsmʌrʌn]
or as the shortened counterpart of of such vowel as अ /ʌ/ in O नान /snɑn/ [ʌsnɑn] and

                           Oथायी /stʰɑi/ [ʌstʰɑi].

Moreover, such insertion also occurs with loanwords. Table 4.15 presents it.

                                          Oकूल /skul/ [iskul] 'school'

The English borrowings in Bhojpuri show that the insertion occurs as fronting
counterpart of उ /u/ in Oकूल /skul/ [iskul], shortened counterpart of the falling position

                           of ऑ /ɔ/ into आ /ɑ/ in eॉक /pʰrɔk/, rising-fronting counterpart of आ /a/ in gलास /ɡlɑs/

                           and falling-back counterpart of ए /e/ in hलेट /pleʈ/.

                           4.5.3 Orthographic and phonological levels
Representation of the various aspects of the phonological facts in orthography is
inconsistent with regard to the level of phonology. However, this situation is not peculiar

in Bhojpuri, but can be found to be true for other orthographies, i.e., Hindi, Nepali as well
as in other languages that have early origin and continuity, such as English.
